Experience the vibrant sounds of Washington, D.C., as the Live! Concert Series returns to the Woodrow Wilson Plaza, or be dazzled by the award-winning musical production of The Wizard of Oz at The Puppet Co. Playhouse. Allow yourself to be captivated by a science-themed art exhibit displaying incredible photography, experiments, paintings, sculptures and media, or check out a new exhibit commemorating Bruce Lee. 

If you’re looking for some action this weekend, Davis Boxing Promotions presents Strap Season, an epic fight night guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience. Residents looking for fun and great laughs can enjoy Magic with Reggie Rice, comedy magician and one-of-a-kind entertainer. 

Finish the weekend off with a great time at the King & Rye BBQ Block Party, and, don’t miss an opportunity to be amazed by the production of Guido Contini’s “Nine,” which officially closes on Sunday, Aug 11.

Live! Concert Series

The Live! Concert Series on the Plaza transforms lunchtime into a musical journey, offering audiences of all ages and musical tastes an opportunity to enjoy an eclectic mix of performances. From catchy pop tunes, to the soulful melodies of jazz, the charm of country, and the lively beats of Latin music, there’s something for everyone. 

The Wizard of Oz

The Puppet Co. Playhouse, 7300 MacArthur Blvd Glen Echo, MD

This award-winning musical production of “The Wizard of Oz ” uses the original Denslow design from the books that inspired musicals, movies and more, and draws from several styles of puppetry to tell the great American fairy tale written by L. Frank Baum. The story takes place at the 1900s Kansas State Fair, with performers in costumes, guiding the audience down the yellow brick road. 

With a run time of approximately 55 minutes, the show is recommended for ages 4 and up. 

Friday, Aug. 2 

The Science of our Surroundings art exhibit”

“The Science of Our Surroundings” is a science-themed art exhibit. Scientific concepts, from a cutaway of a cell, to the food chain, visible light spectrum, layers of the Earth, and a dinosaur skeleton, conjure vivid, colorful images in many people’s minds thanks to the diligent work of science textbook artists. With photography, experiments, paintings, sculptures and media, this exhibit allows audiences to tap into how the artistic community has explored and helps relay aspects of science..

Bruce Lee: American Son and International Icon”

A new exhibit commemorates cultural superstar Bruce Lee, more than 50 years since his death in 1973, revealing both his Hollywood qualities and his sensitivities as an artist, philosopher and family man. 

On display are rarely-seen images, personal documents, and objects from Bruce Lee and those who were influenced by his work. 

Saturday, Aug. 3

Davis Boxing Promotions presents Strap Season featuring the return of NABF Super Featherweight Champion Jordan Shortdog White; Frankie “Franchise” Scarboro, who is stepping into the ring for his shot at the ABO Regional Super Featherweight Championship; and Ervin Fuller, throwing down for the ABO Regional Super Bantamweight Title.

Magic with Reggie Rice

Reggie Rice, a three-time Comedy Magician of the Year, has been the Opening Act for Jordin Sparks and The Former First Lady Of the United States Michelle Obama five times. A headliner on Luxury Cruise Liners, he has also been featured on the Travel Channel, performing his Comedy Magic for hundreds of thousands of people all over the world including Comedian Kevin Hart, Ryan Seacrest, and Shaquille O’Neal. 

Check out Rice, as his foolish energetic approach to magic and comedy makes his show entertaining for audiences of all ages, and leaves them surprised and bursting into laughter all at once.

Guido Contini’s “Nine,”

Based on the groundbreaking Italian film “8 ½,” “Nine” follows famed director Guido Contini, suffering from “director’s block” on his latest film. As he faces a strained marriage to the neglected Luisa, he retreats into his mind, where a parade of women — lovers past and present — bombards his senses and throws reality into question.
